Community Impact
Community Impact supports children and young people aged 8-19 years old, alongside their families, who are having difficulties engaging fully within their community, want to improve their self-confidence and/or are experiencing social isolation. An individual’s community can include their home life, school experience, friendship groups, work, membership of clubs and services. The aim of Community Impact is to enhance community spirit within Thanet through creativity and fun enabling individuals and families to engage fully within the local area.
Community Impact offers a range of activities for young people including the provision of family days out and family activities to encourage people to engage in the community and use local resources. This improves self-esteem and confidence and allows young people the opportunity to meet new friends.
Participation is key within the project and Community Impact has a Project Council consisting of young people and parents/carers who meet regularly to oversee the running of the service. At these meetings they discuss new developments and influence the future of the project. Young people are also involved in writing articles and designing a regular newsletter, which is distributed throughout Stepahead, to local organisations and to families who are supported.
Support groups and coffee mornings are run in partnership with parents and carers to develop their own community support networks. ‘Speakeasy’ courses are also available for parents/carers to attend to allow them to gain the confidence to discuss healthy sexual relationships with their children as well as the opportunity to gain an OCN accredited qualification.
