Puddingstone Grange supports Mental Health Awareness week

Puddingstone Grange care home is a popular care home within the local community of Plumstead. The home is well supported with many groups and classes visiting the home to help keep residents engaged, energised and support them to continue to feel part of the community around them.

The current COVID-19 pandemic has meant community engagement for all care homes has become harder to fulfil. All care homes across the UK are now in isolation with only health care professionals able to visit, but to continue to keep residents and staff entertained through this crisis has not been impossible, and certainly not for the team at Puddingstone Grange.

During Mental Health Awareness Week, residents took full advantage of the beautiful weather and spent the day basking in the sunshine whilst making non-alcoholic cocktails. There was an abundance of fresh tropical fruits and berries available, including strawberries, raspberries and blackberries, all of which studies show, help to improve mental health and well-being.

Pauline Hill, Activity Coordinator said, ‘We chose to make fruit mocktails with residents to highlight the benefits of fruit and to start the discussion about the impact of eating fruit and vegetables to help support mental health and wellbeing. It was a very positive activity as the residents were involved from the very start.

Residents enjoyed cutting and preparing the food which is a regular activity we encourage residents to be involved in at Puddingstone Grange, it supports dexterity in fingers and hands. Their senses were also stimulated through smell and touch of the fruits and herbs, especially the mint leaves used for the Pimms cocktails. The use of mint sparked a great conversation amongst us all, reminiscing on how we used to grow mint in our gardens and how it is one of the easiest herbs to maintain! And then came the exercise part with many residents commenting how it was like a workout mixing cocktails!

After lunch, residents enjoyed a chilled glass of their delicious drinks, perfect for a hot summer’s afternoon’.

Puddingstone Grange care home provides care for those living with dementia, requiring nursing care or mental health care and support.

We know that during the current pandemic, people are still looking for and requiring residential care or home care services.

We want to assure you that when we are admitting new residents from the community, we are doing so safely. We have clear policies in place to ensure that screening or testing is undertaken prior to any new admission into the care home.

We are currently taking admissions at Puddingstone Grange for those that need care. Please call the Home Manager on 0208 3170912
